Most Puget Sound Cities Aren't Keeping Up With Housing Growth Targets

The Puget Sound Regional Council released new data showing that only 14 of 40 major cities across King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Kitsap Counties are meeting their housing growth targets through 2044. While the four-county region overall is slightly ahead at 183,000 units built versus 167,000 needed, growth is heavily concentrated in Seattle and a handful of other cities. Recent zoning changes and comprehensive plan updates may help other jurisdictions catch up in coming years.
