Port Sticks to Plan: Six Mathison Park Trees Swiftly Removed

Six large trees were removed from Mathison Park in Burien during the week of October 5, with stumps completely cleared by October 16. The Port of Seattle removed the trees as part of its Flight Corridor Management Program to prevent obstruction of aircraft flight paths. The City of Burien plans to plant replacement trees that will provide shade but remain shorter than the removed Douglas firs, reducing vulnerability to pests through species diversity.
