'We're Not Going to Stop': Sound Transit Assuages Concerns About Reaching Ballard
Sound Transit reassured residents Monday that the Ballard light rail extension, approved by voters in 2016, remains on track despite a May board vote that separated the project into phases. The agency has $300 million for design work and is seeking $8–10 billion more in funding to complete the line to Ballard by 2042, or potentially by 2060 if additional funding isn’t found. Sound Transit is targeting cost savings through design refinements and pursuing 75-year bonds to help bridge a funding gap in the 2030s.
