42nd District Senate race one of the most expensive in the state

Washington’s 42nd Legislative District Senate race between Republican Erika Creydt and Democrat Michael Shepard has attracted over $1.5 million in campaign spending, making it the state’s sixth most expensive race. As of late October, Creydt had raised $400,000 and Shepard $315,000, with independent groups spending heavily on advertising—the conservative Leadership Council spent nearly $490,000 against Shepard. The race is competitive because the historically swing district lacks an incumbent and both parties view it as winnable.
