WHEN COAL WAS KING: Green River Hot Springs Hotel

Voice of the Valley published a historical account of the Green River Hot Springs Hotel, a luxury resort that operated near the Northern Pacific Railway in the upper Green River Valley from 1900 to 1910. The hotel, which featured 100 rooms and amenities like a bowling alley and golf course, burned down in August 1910 shortly after its lease expired and new owners took over. The story traces the resort’s origins to natural 132° hot springs known to Native American tribes and served wealthy visitors from Seattle via train.
