WA governor ‘disappointed’ Canada is fast-tracking new oil pipeline to BC
Canada’s federal government has fast-tracked approval of the Pacific Link oil pipeline, a 775-mile project that would carry 1 million barrels of crude daily from Alberta to a supertanker terminal at Vancouver’s Port of Roberts Bank by the early 2030s. Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson expressed disappointment Friday, citing concerns about oil spill risks to the Salish Sea and noting the proposed supertankers—each carrying 92 million gallons—are eight times larger than the Exxon Valdez spill and have been banned from Washington ports since the 1970s.
