Sound Transit Floating Bridge Light Rail Linked to Mass Fish Deaths in Lake Washington
Sound Transit’s Crosslake light rail connection across Lake Washington, which opened in March 2026, is under investigation after approximately 2,000 fish died near electrical equipment on the I-90 floating bridge in early August. The agency identified a potential link to the bridge’s cathodic protection system and implemented an interim fix on August 23 by lifting anode strings off the lakebed. Officials say the bridge remains safe, and Sound Transit and WSDOT are working on a permanent solution while monitoring the system.
