Highline Board Talks Accountability. Where Are the Academics?

The Highline School Board held its Sept. 2 meeting focused on accountability and superintendent evaluation. While the board unanimously approved four focus themes for Superintendent Ivan Duran’s 2026–27 evaluation, academic achievement was not specifically included—despite his July evaluation identifying measurable academic growth as an area needing focus. The board extended Duran’s contract through June 2029, but Highline’s English Language Arts growth reached only 48% against a 60% target for 2025–26.
