BNSF Demands Cloud Seattle's Path to Replacing Aging Jackson Street Bridges

Seattle’s Department of Transportation released a study on replacing two aging downtown bridges over BNSF railroad tracks near King Street Station. The study found that any replacement bridge would need to be 3–7 feet higher to meet current railroad clearance requirements, affecting nearby properties and transit access. Replacement costs for both bridges could range from $131 million to $276 million, with the city unlikely to pursue the project in the near term.
