New shark research launches decade-long data crusade

Researchers from the Seattle Aquarium, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and partner organizations have tagged eight bluntnose sixgill sharks this summer in Puget Sound, with plans for 12-15 total by September. The decade-long study aims to understand these ancient deep-sea sharks’ role in the local ecosystem, their diet, and movement patterns. Increasing sightings in the Salish Sea offer a rare opportunity to study these elusive 14-foot predators in shallow waters.
