West Seattle light rail expansion delayed another 3 years

Sound Transit announced Thursday that light rail service to West Seattle will now arrive in 2035, three years later than previously planned. The 3.9-mile extension from SoDo to Alaska Junction now costs approximately $5 billion—more than triple the original $1.5 billion estimate—after Sound Transit cut $2 billion by eliminating the Avalon Station. The agency also approved $765 million for property acquisition and construction services to help purchase 55 needed properties.
