Washington Poised to Elect Its First Openly Trans Legislator
Jaelynn Scott will become Washington’s first openly transgender state legislator after winning the 37th District primary with over 88% of the vote. Scott, who leads the Lavender Rights Project and is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, will represent South Seattle communities including Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, and the Central District. She’ll face the general election in November alongside state ballot measures on transgender rights and education.
