Mount Vernon temporarily bans data centers
Mount Vernon City Council voted 6-1 on Wednesday, August 12, for a six-month moratorium on data center development while the planning department creates new regulations. The move mirrors similar bans adopted by Skagit County, La Conner, and other regional cities including Burien. Mount Vernon cited concerns about electricity demand, water use, stormwater capacity, and the city’s location in the Skagit River floodplain.
