WDFW invites comment on proposal to close recreational scallop harvesting

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is proposing a year-round closure on recreational scallop harvesting statewide to protect public health from biotoxins like paralytic shellfish poisoning. If approved, the closure takes effect late December 2026 and affects all recreational scallop diving and intertidal harvesting. Public comments are due by September 14, with a virtual hearing August 5 at 5:30 p.m. The Fish and Wildlife Commission will decide in October.
