Mercer Island Gets Housing Plans in Order Ahead of State-Imposed Deadline

Mercer Island’s City Council voted unanimously on July 21 to update zoning and housing rules to comply with state law before a July 31 deadline. The changes include allowing emergency shelters and supportive housing across more neighborhoods under House Bill 2266, increasing building heights in the Town Center to six to eight stories, and reducing affordability requirements from 15% to 10%. A state hearings board will review compliance on September 15.
