July 18 Airport Forum Offered Residents Rare Chance for Direct Questions

About 40 residents attended a community forum on July 18 at Highline College in Des Moines to discuss Sea-Tac Airport’s expansion plans and environmental impacts. U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, State Sen. Tina Orwall, and Port of Seattle Commissioner Ryan Calkins fielded direct questions about noise, air quality, and pollution affecting nearby communities including Burien. The forum highlighted concerns about black oily residue on homes and vehicles, high asthma rates near the airport, and the limited near-term impact of sustainable aviation fuel on emissions.
