ELECTION 2026: Get ready to vote on sales-tax increase for transit in November

Seattle City Council voted to put a renewed transit measure on November’s ballot that would double the current sales tax funding for transit from 0.15% to 0.3%, generating approximately $138 million annually. If approved, the measure would expand bus service 47% to 280,000 trips yearly, expand transit subsidies for 12,000 residents, and fund improvements in South Seattle and the Duwamish Valley. The current measure expires next spring, and Mayor Katie Wilson is expected to sign the ballot measure next week.
