WHEN COAL WAS KING: 1940 Library

Voice of the Valley shares the history of Black Diamond’s library, tracing its journey from a room in the Pacific Coast Coal Hotel in 1916 through multiple relocations as the mining town evolved. The library eventually became part of King County Library System in 1990 and moved to a new 5,000-square-foot facility on Roberts Drive, which opened in May 2008.
