Parent Sues Highline Over Student's Religious Rights

A father filed a federal lawsuit July 8 against Highline Public Schools, claiming the district violated his daughter’s constitutional rights by restricting her religious expression and forcing her to attend a mandatory assembly conflicting with her Christian beliefs. The ACLJ lawsuit centers on two 2025 incidents: the student’s distribution of Christian gospel tracts and a May 29 Inclusion Assembly covering LGBTQIA+ topics. Highline has not yet responded, saying it hasn’t been formally served.
