Op-Ed: Why Spokane Needs to Keep Its Transit Momentum

Spokane County voters will decide on STA Proposition 1, a 0.2% sales tax renewal for Spokane Transit Authority on the August 4th ballot. The measure is not a tax increase but funds the next 20 years of transit service and an $80 million Division Street bus rapid transit project. Since 2016, Spokane Transit has increased bus service 35%, made transit free for riders under 19, and achieved the state’s lowest cost per passenger while providing the second-highest fixed route ridership behind King County Metro.
