King County executive, Seattle mayor announce plan to reset King County homelessness authority

King County Executive Girmay Zahilay and Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced a plan Wednesday to stabilize the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) after an April forensic evaluation found $13 million in mismanaged funds and a $45 million deficit. The plan refocuses KCRHA on core regional functions like coordinated entry and federal funding applications, while moving service contracts back to King County and Seattle by August 1, 2027. An independent financial monitoring firm will embed in KCRHA through year’s end to strengthen oversight.
