'Stop the Income Tax' Initiative Clears Signature Threshold

A statewide initiative to repeal Washington’s 9.9% tax on income over $1 million has qualified for the November ballot after collecting 317,506 signatures—exceeding the 309,000 required. Initiative 26-645 would also prohibit future state and local income taxes. Supporters say it protects entrepreneurs and retirees; opponents argue it funds important public investments. Organizers will submit signatures to the Secretary of State on July 2.
