Bright spot for salmon — sockeye fishing open on Skagit River

Washington Fish and Wildlife opened sockeye salmon fishing on the Skagit River through July 31, marking continued recovery of the Baker River sockeye run. State fisheries officials estimate 70,861 sockeye will return this summer—down slightly from last year’s record 92,000—thanks to decades of co-management efforts by the state, tribes, and Puget Sound Energy. The daily catch limit is four fish with a 12-inch minimum size.
