Harger: King County raised your sales tax without a vote. The one time voters got a say on this issue, they said no
King County’s Transportation District voted 5-4 Friday to raise sales tax by 0.1 percent starting January 1, 2027, generating roughly $100 million annually without a voter ballot. This is the same tax voters rejected 55-45 in 2014. The tax will raise Seattle’s combined sales tax to 10.65%, one of the highest in the country, while funding unincorporated areas and wealthy Eastside enclaves more than Seattle itself.
