Op-Ed: It's Time to Reform Sound Transit

An activist filed a state initiative (IL27-123) proposing to overhaul Sound Transit’s board governance. The proposed “Effective and Responsive Transit Board Reform Act” would replace the current board of local elected officials with 11 directly elected board members plus 7 appointed experts, taking effect in 2029 if approved. The move comes after Sound Transit delayed major ST3 projects approved by voters in 2016, including indefinitely postponing the Ballard light rail line.
