33 Bookstores. 10 Days. No Car. An Urbanist’s Guide to Independent Bookstore Day
Seattle’s Independent Bookstore Day Passport Challenge ran April 25–May 3, 2026, expanded to 33 participating bookstores across the region. Two transit-focused readers completed the entire challenge using only public transportation—buses, light rail, and ferries—visiting stores in Seattle, the Eastside, Kitsap Peninsula, and Edmonds. The article profiles bookstore owners and transit riders, including stops at Page 2 Books and Three Trees Books in Burien, and explores how transit access shapes independent bookstore viability.
